CHECK YOUR FILTER EVERY MONTH, especially during heavy use months (winter and summer). A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you cool or warm - wasting energy. A clean filter will also prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system - leading to expensive maintenance and / or early system failure.
CALL TO SCHEDULE A PRECISION TUNE-UP. Just as a tune-up for your car can improve gas mileage, a yearly tune-up of your heating and cooling system can improve efficiency, comfort, and equipment life.
PROPERLY SET YOUR THERMOSTAT. You can save about $180 per year by properly setting your thermostat. You can set it higher or lower (depending on the season) when you are away from home, asleep or on vacation. A programmable thermostat would be the most ideal way to get the most savings. We have many models to choose from.
HAVE DUCTS PROPERLY SEALED. Properly sealed and insulated ducts can improve the efficiency of your heating and cooling system by as much as 20%, and sometimes even more. We have trained professionals that can test the leakage rate.
HAVE REFRIGERANT CHECKED. A properly charged system will operate more efficiently and help prolong the systems life. This is done during our Precision Tune-Ups.
HAVE PROPER SIZE EQUIPMENT. Many homeowners believe that bigger is better when buying new equipment, when in fact a system that is too large will not keep your home comfortable because of its frequent on/off cycling. If your system is more than 15 years old, you may want to consider getting a more efficient model.
SET WATER HEATER TO 120 DEGREES OR LOWER. Savings resulting from turning down your water heater temperature are based on 2 things: reduced standby losses, and consumption. If you have an older water heater, you can save money by wrapping it in insulation. (Don't forget to turn off electric water heaters when you go on vacation)
